Tuhua Mayor Island
Saturday, 28 March 2026
Join us for a challenging adventure on Tuhua Mayor Island’s rugged terrain. Starting the day with a 2 hour boat trip to the island. This shortened route takes you along part of the crater rim, offering an exhilarating experience as we navigate terrain east along to the Devil’s Staircase and back around ruru pass. This walk is not for the faint hearted as includes root climbing, ladders and could include crawling on hands and knees navigating treelines.
After the walk, there will be free time at the bay to enjoy your packed lunch and a refreshing swim. The boat departs for the mainland at 4:00 p.m.
This trip is very much weather dependent, confirmation will be the Wednesday 25th March 2026 before the trip, based on the weather forecast. If this trip is postponed the backup date is Saturday 11th April 2026. Before booking, you must be able to travel on both dates.
Our Tuhua trip Mayor Island is incredibly popular and sells out in record time! This year we will offer a limited wait list to cover any cancellations for the 2026 walk. At the end of the festival we will clear the wait list, and open up the walks again for the 2027 festival. (ie, no one on the waitlist will get priority or carry forward to 2027).
Restrictions: This trip is limited to 23 spaces, so don’t miss out! 18 years and over, shorter route only.
