The Kauaeranga Tramping Club will guide you through an old mining area just north of Thames. Starting from the car park by Dickson Park Motor Camp on Victoria Street in Tararu, this walk climbs steeply before flattening out along a ridge. The track is uneven in places but offers good views over Tararu and the Firth of Thames.
It is a steep descent into Tinker’s Gully where you will see old mines before taking a short walk back along the road to the carpark.
This loop is rough and quite muddy in places.
Distance: 6km return approx
