A night at Te Rereatukahia Hut
Saturday, 18 April 2026 - Sunday, 19 April 2026
Overnight Adventure to Te Rereatukahia Hut. Starting from Hot Springs Road, this track takes you on a gradual climb into the heart of the Kaimai Ranges. The first section follows a well-formed path through regenerating forest before leading into beautiful stands of mature native bush, alive with birdsong. Expect some steady uphill stretches, stream crossings, and rooty sections underfoot as you make your way higher. Along the ridgelines you’ll be rewarded with glimpses across the Bay of Plenty and into the Waikato before reaching the 12-bunk Te Rereatukahia Hut.Spending the night here is a true backcountry experience — basic but comfortable, with the chance to share the hut with other walkers and enjoy the serenity of being immersed in nature. The following morning, descend the same track back to Hot Springs Road, feeling accomplished and refreshed by this classic Kaimai adventure as part of the Echo Walking Festival. Opportunity to watch one of the best sunsets/sunrises across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. While up at camp and for those who want to do a wee side mission, there are options to have a look at Baldies Knob or Wahine Rock. This is an adults only overnight experience. This experience is an opportunity to come together as a group to experience an overnight in a hut where you can talk through packing with the guides, learn about the history of the track, hear about hut etiquette and experience an overnighter together. For those that would like a dip in the hot pools on the return, Sapphire Springs is 2 minutes from the carpark and can be booked at your leisure.
