Walks
Karangahake Loop with lunch
Wednesday, 10 April 2019
Grade 2-3
Nearest Town: Karangahake
Registration Region: Waihi
Duration: 2-3 hours
Start Time: 10:00 am - Meet at the Crown Hill carpark
The old Karangahake Hall carpark is our starting point wineing (winding!) our way along the river trail into the gorge itself, crossing the river, climbing the steps and creeping through the Windows Tunnels (bring a torch), peeking out the Windows down into the gorge - spectacular views of clear rushing water and historical mining remnants.
Out again and down the steps, meandering along side the river through beautiful native bush, past huge boulders and cliff faces til we get to the “bridge across the water”, through tunnel number two, to the end then up a wee track that takes us straight to the Karangahake Winery Estate … yummy food and wine or whatever takes your fancy!
The last tiny leg of our walk takes over bridge number two spanning the road and the river right back to where we began.
Note: Lots of stairs to climb.
