Meander up through the bush clad Union Hill imagining the Old Miners descending down the many shafts that still exist.
The relics and ghosts of Waihi’s mining past can be seen amidst the regenerated bush and landscape. Union Hill was once the site of the Waihi Battery and several historical relics remain, including the huge concrete cyanide tanks, the Waihi Battery stamp foundations, kilns and drives. Add in some descending darkness and moonlight and let your imagination take over. All around you are surrounded by Waihi’s mining history and natural beauty. A great family walk.
Bring a torch and sturdy shoes. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This walk is dependant on operational requirements of the mine at that time.
